Seit 20 Jahren bestehen in Frankreich nun die zunehmend international an Bedeutung gewinnenden Ausstellungshäuser und Sammlungen der Fonds régionaux d’art contemporain, kurz FRAC genannt. Eine großzügige Förderpolitik durch die Pariser Zentralregierung und eine mitunter gelungene regionale Einbettung dieser Einrichtungen haben vor allem der französischen Provinz bei den überwiegend jungen zeitgenössischen Künstlern den allerbesten Ruf eingetragen.
K21 in Düsseldorf und Museum Ludwig in Köln geben nun erstmals in Deutschland mit den Schwerpunkten Ambiance (Düsseldorf) und Mouvement (Köln) einen repräsentativen Überblick. Dabei nehmen Titel und Untertitel sowohl die folkloristischen Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Städten auf, wie sich auch das Rheinland einmal mehr als Region des Übergangs und der Verbindung von Frankreich und Deutschland erweist.
Gezeigt werden u.a. Arbeiten von Absalon, Ader, Brecht, Broodthaers, Bulloch, Burden, Buren, Closky, Creed, de Rijke/de Rooij, diCorcia, Doisneau, Fabro, Filliou, Flavin, Gillick, Gonzalez-Foerster, Gordon, Gygi, Haake, Hains, Hatoum, Huyghe, Kusama, Lamelas, Lavier, Lévêque, Mogarra, Morris, Moulène, Mullican, Orozco, Parreno, Rondinone, Sala, Signer, Slominski, Starling, Sugimoto, Villeglé, Wearing, Wegman, Weiner und Zobernig.

For 20 years in France now the museums and collections of the Fonds régionaux d’art contemporain, known as the FRAC for short, have increasingly gained international recognition and renown. A generous sponsorship policy on the part of the central government in Paris and the successful regional establishment of these institutions have contributed above all, to the French provinces obtaining at the very best reputation amongst the ranks of young contemporary artists.
For the first time in Germany, K21 in Düsseldorf and Museum Ludwig in Cologne provide a representative overview with the main focus upon »Ambiance« (Düsseldorf) and »Mouvement« (Cologne). In so doing, the title and subtitles allude to both the folkloric differences between these cities, as well as the Rhineland as a region of transition and connectedness between France and Germany.
