FORT (elswhere) is everywhere

The artists Alberta Niemann (* 1982 in Bremen) and Jenny Kropp (* 1978 in Frankfurt/M.) are the group FORT. In their artistic practice, Fort examines social, political and economic events and developments. They are no strangers to bizarre moments, such as moving the complete interior of a bankrupt, former Schlecker branch into the context of art for their work »Leck«. The gutted and, in part, already considerably battered shelves are now arranged in neat new aisles at the Kestnergesellschaft, serving as a reminder of the decline of Schlecker-Group in Germany – one of the largest corporate bankruptcies in post-war Germany. Equally strange are the scenes from the video »The Calling«. It is set in a call center with workstations defined by frenzy, over-stimulation and pressure to perform. In the midst of it all, however, are employees who seem to have fallen into some kind of deep sleep at their desks: sleep as a subversive act, as a way of resistance?
