Günther Förg at the Kunsthalle Bremen: Photography

The Kunsthalle Bremen is devoting itself to Günther Förg’s extensive photographic oeuvre on modern architecture in the form of a overview comprising large-scale works completed between 1982 and the the year 2004. In the exhibition at the Kunstverein Münster, the large 2400 cm by 1600 cm works – also reflecting the architecture of the room – caused quite a stir. The show in Bremen incorporated these works as wells as portraits, self-portraits and works from Italy on the architecture of Guiseppe Terragni. In addition, there was Hans Döllgast’s stairs from the Old Pinakothek in Munich, as well as images of stairs from Madrid and Athens and the pictures of Villa Wittgenstein from 1986. Grouped alongside these were façades from Melnikov, Tel Aviv and the Hamburg Speicherstadt dating from 1997, not to mention photographs of  Alvaro Siza’s Journalists’ Institute in Santiago de Compostella from 2003. The book, with its sequence of photographs arranged by the artist completely himself, mixes a selection of the works on show with such famous images as those of Villa Malaparte, Mies van der Rohe’s Villa Tugenhat or those of Haus Lange in Krefeld.
