Which story?

Up to now, the exuberant corporeality, for example in the unabashed depictions of copulation, with the addition of a style redolent of a duel fought between Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon, was sufficient to characterise the work of the New York-based British painter Cecily Brown. This has caused quite a stir in recent years and has garnered her a good deal of respect.
The new pictures exhibited for the first time at the Kestnergesellschaft Hannover, all of which are illustrated in this book, appear familiar enough in their characteristic painterly style and colour pallete, but all of sudden the object of the artist’s attention would seem to have shifted. She now permits the viewer a the satisfaction of a broadbased abstraction, augmenting her explosively human expression with moments of free observability that have complemented the meaningfulness of her work and have – one almost has the feeling that it would also be a logical consequence – helped her move forward.
